11 Ways to Style a Basic White Shirt

I’ve always been very loyal to the white shirt, It’s a staple piece and a wardrobe must have. The white shirt is very under-estimated within the fashion world. If you are going for a clean crisp look, it’s an essential. There are many ways to wear a white shirt & so many styles provided these days, we’re spoilt for choice.

Along with the good, like everything in life the bad sides come with it. If you’re of a paler complexion, a white shirt can make you look a bit washed out so people tend to avoid getting one. This is easy to overcome by simply adding the right accessories. Wearing white is a bit daunting due to the fear of spilling your lunch on it and it staining for good. Worn with caution, A white shirt is a must-have for every woman!

Trends come and go, but the versatility of the classic white button-down is long-lasting. It can be a blank canvas for your outfit, or it can be the main focus. You can dress it up or down. Knot it, Tuck it in. Wear with heels or runners, the list is endless. Need I say more?

Whether its length is full, midi, at the knee, or mini, I am a big fan of how the shirt and skirt look together. Tuck a crisp white button-down into an ultra-high waist knee length skirt and finish it off with a belt. Perfect for wearing to work, looking good while staying professional. Don’t be afraid to bare a little skin by rolling up the sleeves, and unbuttoning a few buttons to stay messy but neat.

Although a white shirt and a knee length skirt can be sexy and professional. Try to avoid wearing with a short skirt. Not the best look – you’ll end up looking like Britney Spears in her Toxic Video!

With Warm Layers

With the seasons getting colder, it is time to break out the winter woolies. Layering, layering, layering is all I can say. Wearing a shirt underneath your winter pullovers can give a good look if worn right. Pop that collar out, and let the shirt flow underneath.

If you don’t like the look of layering, you can’t go wrong with a blazer, jeans and a shirt for a mix of looks and texture..

Top your white button-down and denim combo with a sleeveless coat for transitional weather.

Again, layering is the way forward. A sleeveless jacket is a chic way to style-out the next couple of months, whether it be a warm wool or a light duster coat. There’s always a sleeveless jacket for everyone!

For the perfect outfit on a casual night out, go for skinny black jeans and a casual cotton top. Finish it off with a pair of head-turning heels and a killer clutch.

For an interview, or for a more professional look. Go for classic black suit pant and blazer, fold your shirting cuffs over your blazer. Add a pop of colour to your ensemble to brighten up the look.

Have your shirt as your canvas and let your trousers do the all the talking! Printed pants are a huge trend right now, especially in the Summer & Autumn months. They are a bit of fun and can just make you look very dressed up and unique. Not to mention the majority of them are made from the comfiest fabric, it’s like wearing your pajamas while looking chic!

Tucked half in – Choose a classic with a little more slouch and movement. A lot of people have a fear of this look seeming sloppy but if executed correctly this can be easily avoided.

With just a shirt and jeans, I always want to give my outfit that bit more. To dress up your denim look, add a classic a bandana or statement necklace for something different.

If accessories aren’t your thing, go for a white button-down with a little something extra, like embellishment around the neckline or collar.
